Welcome! I'm Emily
Rudofsky, LCSW (they/she) the founder of Compassionate
Self, a therapy practice dedicated to providing care
that truly sees and affirms the richness of your
experiences. As a person with lived experience
navigating neurodivergence, LGBTQ+ identity and more, I
believe that everyone deserves a space where they feel
understood, respected, empowered and safe to be
themselves. I believe that shame is at the root of a
great deal of daily struggle, and compassion,
connection, and understanding are integral parts of our
healing and growth.

My practice is built on a foundation of core values:
Neurodivergent Affirming Care: I center and affirm the experiences of neurodivergent individuals, including Autistic individuals, those with ADHD, sensory processing sensitivities, and learning differences. My approach recognizes neurodivergence as a natural and valuable form of human diversity, while also acknowledging the very real challenges that come with navigating a world often ill-equipped to support diverse minds and bodies. I focus on understanding your individual strengths, challenges, and needs, tailoring strategies that work for you, rather than pathologizing differences or aiming for neurotypical norms.
LGBTQ+ Inclusion and Acceptance: I am committed to creating a safe, affirming, and celebratory space for individuals of all sexual orientations, gender identities, and expressions. I have a deep understanding of the unique challenges and joys within the LGBTQ+ community and offer support in navigating identity, relationships, and societal pressures. You are welcome here, exactly as you are.
Anti-Oppressive Care: I recognize the impact of systemic oppression, including racism, sexism, ableism, fatphobia, homophobia, and transphobia, on mental health and well-being. My practice is rooted in an anti-oppressive framework, acknowledging power dynamics and working collaboratively to address the ways in which these systems may be affecting your life. I am committed to ongoing learning and self-reflection to provide culturally humble and responsive care.
Trauma-informed Support: I also recognize the prevalence of trauma in our world, particularly among marginalized populations, and its profound impact on individuals' lives. My approach is trauma-informed, meaning I prioritize creating a safe and supportive environment where you feel heard and understood.
Radical Self-Compassion: In a world that often demands constant striving and self-criticism, I believe in the power of radical self-compassion. I will support you in cultivating kindness, understanding, and acceptance towards yourself, especially during times of difficulty. A key aspect of this is recognizing that suffering and imperfection are part of our shared human experience, rather than something that isolates us. This is a core reason why therapy, and especially group therapy, can be so healing: it reminds us that we are not alone in our struggles and fosters a sense of connection. Together, we will challenge internal critics, cultivate self-soothing skills, and recognize your inherent worthiness, while emphasizing our shared human experience.
I believe there is no one size fits all
approach to therapy. In our work together, you can
expect a collaborative and person-centered approach.
While I draw upon training in evidence-based approaches
including DBT (Dialectical Behavior Therapy), I highly
prioritize client autonomy and will work with you to
find what best supports your needs from a place of
non-judgement.
